About Zwartberg View

It is said that the red cliffs between Oudtshoorn and de Rust are the most beautiful in all Africa, and nobody denies that for sheer grandeur there is little to match the Swartberg Mountains…

This is where you’ll find one of the most amazing tiny lodges in the world – nestled between the red cliffs and the Swartberge… yet just 15 minutes from the bustling town of Oudtshoorn!

Zwartberg View Mountain Lodge ::
There are just three chalets, each en-suite, with it’s own private deck – all overlook a natural amphitheatre, in our own nature reserve, with the red cliffs on one side, and the Swartberge on the other. Each en-suite chalet is uniquely furnished and decorated – and each of them styled to match the creature after which they are named.

Down in the valley, a short walk from the chalets you’ll find our very unusual base camp, based on the original old workers cottage that was not long ago the only building on the reserve, albe it broken down and derelict at the time. Today you’ll find a magnificent deck with a central fireplace, an interior dining area which doubles as our library and guest reception area – alongside it, our exclusive bar where you are welcome to help yourself to whatever you fancy along with all the ice, cooldrinks, fruit juices and of course hot beverages you might ever dream of!
Here is where we spend our evenings, and of course meet for breakfast!

Zebra Walk @ Zwartberg View Mountain Lodge ::
Located in a secret spot on Zwartberg View private nature reserve, away from all other buildings and people, set right on a dry river bed with the mountains rising up all around – the self catering cottage is ideal for those who love nature and the outdoors and enjoy experiencing wild countryside up close and personal! Zebra Walk Cottage (so named because it is situated on the route the zebras take to and from the waterhole) is entirely self contained; fitted with an enormous kingsize bed, and a sleeper couch, there is an inside kitchenette, an en-suite bathroom, a deck with comfy armchairs, a proper outdoor cooking station and a raised deck for dining.

Cuisine @ Zwartberg View Mountain Lodge ::

We pioneered open-fire, flame-driven cooking… and 90% of what we serve for dinner and indeed breakfast comes directly off the fire! We do not have a set menu as such, but for every booking, we go into town, to the best butcher, the best greengrocer and all our favourite speciality stores to select what is fresh, different and can be adapted to being prepared over open flames rather than in an oven! Dinner and breakfast are special experiences at Zwartberg View, not to be missed! We will tailor our rate for you to include dinner and lunch (breakfast is always included) but should it be that you want to savour the fine dining of Oudtshoorn or De Rust, you won’t lose out!

We are also more than happy to pack a picnic lunch for you should you wish to spend the day touring the area, and a picnic breakfast should you be leaving us too early in the morning for a sit-down meal! Remember we cater for halaal, vegetarian and gluten free diets – just let us know beforehand.

Our lodge is an opportunity for those who truly enjoy nature and want to experience the wonders of one of the world’s most unusual and diverse ecosystems to do exactly that!…

Here, there is nothing to upset the peace and tranquility of nature and of the little karoo as it once was… and yet, less than five kms from the lodge and you are back on the main road – to Route 62, and only 60 kms from George!

BEST OF ALL IS THAT THE LODGE IS MIDWAY BETWEEN CAPE TOWN AND ADDO – A PERFECT STOPOVER!!!
